Partner & Family Visas
If you have a partner or family member that you wish to sponsor to live in Australia.
Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and NZ citizens can sponsor partners and close family members for permanent residency or migration to Australia.
Parents with at least half their children living permanently in Australia may be eligible for a parent visa which gives them permanent residency in Australia. Parents over a certain age may be eligible to apply for an onshore ‘aged parent’ visa which allows them to remain in Australia on a bridging visa during processing.
With parent visas there are many factors to consider besides eligibility including social security, Medicare, private health insurance, and whether applicants receive a bridging visa or not, as well as processing times.
We strongly recommend to book a consultation (link) so that we can assess the right parent visa for you and explain the eligibility rules. For example, the sponsor must be settled in Australia as per the definition of the Department of Home Affairs. You also need to meet the Balance of Family Test and have the Assurance of Support Bond.
More recently the government has released the 870 TEMPORARY SPONSORED PARENT VISA for parents of migrants – we will explain why this can be a good option.
