The DAMA Visa is for skilled and semi-skilled workers from overseas. It is an employer sponsored Visa. Currently, there are 135 occupations available under DAMA NT.

The head agreement between the Northern Territory and the Commonwealth that governs NT DAMA II has been extended by one year, ensuring its continuity through 13 December 2024.

The extension has some important changes to make it easier for NT employers to access the program. These changes are now in effect and are outlined below:

1. New occupations

The following 11 new occupations have been added to the NT DAMA eligibility list, bringing the total number of eligible occupations to 135:

2. New Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) concession

  • TSMIT concession for certain occupations changed from a 10% reduction to a fixed amount of $55,000 (excluding superannuation and non-monetary benefits).
  • Sponsored workers now require a minimum monetary salary of $55,000.
  • Previous concession types allowing non-monetary benefits no longer apply.
  • Employers must ensure that salaries for overseas workers match or exceed those of equivalent Australian or permanent resident workers (market salary).
  • Sponsored workers with a TSMIT concession must be paid at least $55,000 or the market salary, whichever is higher.
  • For occupations without a TSMIT concession, the sponsored worker must receive a minimum market salary of at least $70,000.

3. Simplified Path to Permanent Residency

          – Must work in an occupation on the NT DAMA eligibility list.

– Need 2 years of full-time work in the NT in the ENS-nominated or closely related occupation.

          – Comply with visa conditions.

          – Subclass 494 visa holders through NT DAMA can access subclass 191 after 3 years in the NT.

  • Existing concessions for English language and age requirements continue to apply
  • The application process for NT DAMA II remains the same

The changes outlined above will apply to labour agreement requests made to the Department of Home Affairs after 2 November 2023. Migration NT will also apply these changes to existing and new endorsement applications.
