What makes immigrants in Australia successful?

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) almost half of all Australians were born overseas or have at least one parent who was. ABS data from 2013 showed that the labour participation rate of recent migrants and temporary residents was 69% compared to the total Australian rate of 66%. You can read the full report here.

Here are the key characteristics of prosperous immigrants:

  3. They see opportunities everywhere

  4. They can anticipate issues
    Depending on their background, many immigrants have faced numerous personal hardships and are able to anticipate crisis and effectively manage it.
  5. They are willing to learn
    Immigrating to a new country means getting used to a new culture, new language and new place. To successfully take on this huge challenge, immigrants need to be willing and able to learn quickly, which can be turned into a valuable career skill.
  6. They are loyal
    Immigrants are often from minorities and communities that support each other and work collectively. This background encourages loyalty and commitment to future employers and colleagues.
