Newest changes in Immigration: DOHA Occupation List changes – 11 March 2019

Today the Department of Home Affairs announced several changes to Australia’s skilled occupations lists which apply to popular visa programs such as General Skilled Migration (Subclasses 485, 489, 189 and 190) as well as Employer Sponsored Visas (Sublasses 186, 187, 482). For many this will mean good news!

Summary
In total, 36 occupations were added to the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), 27 occupations were removed from the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL), 18 occupations were added to the Regional Occupations List (ROL). Additionally, changes were made to occupational caveats and authorities for skills assessments.

The following occupations have been added to the MLTSSL list, including:

  • Arts Administrator or Manager (ANZSCO code 139911)
  • Dancer or Choreographer (ANZSCO code 211112)
  • Music Director (ANZSCO code 211212)
  • Artistic Director (ANZSCO code 212111)
  • Tennis Coach (ANZSCO code 452316)
  • Footballer (ANZSCO code 452411)
  • Environmental Manager (ANZSCO code 139912)
  • Musician (Instrumental) (ANZSCO code 211213)
  • Statistician (ANZSCO code 224113)
  • Economist (ANZSCO code 224311)
  • Mining Engineer (excluding Petroleum) (ANZSCO code 233611)
  • Petroleum Engineer (ANZSCO code 233612)
  • Engineering Professionals nec (ANZSCO code 233999)
  • Chemist (ANZSCO code 234211)
  • Food Technologist (ANZSCO code 234212)
  • Environmental Consultant (ANZSCO code 234312)
  • Environmental Research Scientist (ANZSCO code 234313)
  • Environmental Scientists nec (ANZSCO code 234399)
  • Geophysicist (ANZSCO code 234412)

  • Textile, Clothing and Footwear Mechanic (ANZSCO code 323215)
  • Watch and Clock Maker and Repairer (ANZSCO code 323316)
  • Chemical Plant Operator (ANZSCO code 399211)
  • Library Technician (ANZSCO code 399312)

Regional Occupations List (ROL)
A number of agricultural occupations such as Beef Cattle Farmer as well as Dentists and Anesthetists have moved from the Short-Term (STSOL) list to the Regional Occupation list (ROL).

Caveats
A limited number of caveat changes will be applicable to occupations such as Footballer and Recruitment Consultants in particular with regards to salary requirements.
